VACANCY – RESEARCH ASSISTANCE

Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation Tanzania, in partnership with The Global TB Program at Baylor College of Medicine Houston, Texas is seeking to hire a research nurse for a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) funded project. This CDC project, Closing - TB GAPS - for people living with HIV: TB Guidance for Adaptable Patient Centered Service (TB GAPS), is a global research project that seeks to assess Tuberculosis screening and diagnostic tests while simultaneously determining the most cost-effective prevention strategy and promoting best practices to sustain the impact of our work.

Position:                1 Research Assistance 

Location:                 Mbeya

Duration:                 Six (6) months

Position Summary

We seek a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our research team as a Research Assistant. The primary responsibility of his/her role will be to conduct qualitative research interviews to health care workers engaged in Tb diagnosis and care at the clinic to obtain direct time-motion data on participant volume and routine activities.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop an in depth understanding of the study design and goals so that she/he can participate fully in the successful implementation and execution of the study.
• The research assistance will work closely with the health care providers and enroll them in the study, so MUST BE friendly, approachable and able to answer study related questions.
• Ability to describe the study to potential participants, answer questions about the study and accurately complete informed consent with participants, arranging appointments and conducting interviews
• Ensure high quality data collection through the following: assisting and testing data collection and management systems, leading regularly scheduled QC meetings and promptly answering all queries.
• Ensure the quality of data from each survey is accurate, complete, and correctly uploaded to the database.
• Assist with regulatory matters and the administrators - ensuring all staff (including self) are compliant with ethics training
• Work in a professional and ethical manner with the team spirit and competence, accountability and integrity

• Prepare weekly study progress reports and any other reports as requested by the site investigator in line with the study protocol.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications / Skills

• At least a diploma in healthrelated social sciences from a recognized institution.

• Must be fluent in English and Swahili

• Prior research or experience working in a TB-HIV clinic and or research setting.

• Ability to work independently and within a team.

• Must be dynamic, persuasive and convincing, self‐ motivated and able to demonstrate high initiative and leadership skills.
